Morning bun

“I feel so fat right now.”

Why is this the only thing I can think of as I sit to have coffee with a friend?

“I need to lose weight. I feel like I have let myself go.”

It’s sad that I’ve come so far, yet I still have so far to go. But isn’t that all of us?

We worry about so many things that really don’t matter.

I mean maybe they matter, but in the grand scheme of things, they don’t REALLY matter.

The people we love aren’t picking us apart like we pick ourselves apart.

A stranger may judge you for a second and then they don’t think about you again.

But most people just aren’t as nit picky!

If you struggle with body issues, it’s likely you’re nitpicky with others you see all day long — you notice things other people may not. But it’s ONLY because you notice so much in yourself.

You are constantly criticizing yourself, so in turn, you critique others. It’s just how it goes.

But the reality is — IT DOES NOT MATTER.

Your body, your weight, your muscle tone is the LEAST interesting thing about you. But the sad thing is, we live in a society that says those are the most important things.

What about being kind and loving? What about working on the hard things or not leaving the hard conversations that come up? What about being the best you can be, growing, serving others & focusing on things that are eternal?

I’ve been learning that I like to run away from hard things…and it’s hard for me to focus on what actually matters sometimes.

I think that’s why maybe I’ve focused all these years on the body stuff. It’s easier to obsess and focus and try to have control over that, than actually accept the reality of some situations in my life.

Are you like me? Can you relate?

It’s easier to focus on trying to control my food or workouts, trying to lose weight, or just eat whatever I want, than to actually focus on the things that matter….

I want to write more. I used to always think I needed some big God moment to write — but maybe I just need to write.

If you’re out with a friend right now, and you don’t feel great in your skin, take a deep breath. You are enough. You’re beautiful. And how much people love you will not change if you were smaller.

We have believed the lie for far too long that if we were smaller, we will be more worthy.

And that’s a load of crap.

Sit back. Relax. Enjoy your iced latte and morning bun with your friend.

This is the good stuff of life.

I promise you, you’re not going to gain 10 pounds having a sweet drink and a pastry.

🥮

Life is hard and beautiful and messy and amazing all at the same time. Don’t waste more time trying to have control over your body just because you don’t have control over some bigger area in your life.

It’s easy to focus on things that just don’t matter sometimes because we don’t want to work on the bigger, harder things.

It takes work to get to the root of things.

So get to the root of things. Let’s focus on the things that are eternal. Our outward selves are wasting away….

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Praying these verses and these words encourage you today.

Let’s focus on the things that actually matter today.

xx Elsa
